Creating a Song
So
you want to know how to create your own unique song? Well, first I suggest you
install a great program like Magix Music Maker, to get started. The reason I absolutely
love this program is because you can virtually demo each version of the program
and after the trail period you can purchase the program for less than a hundred
bucks. You get tons of awesome beats and
instruments to choose from. You also have midi and vocal record capabilities in
this program which is essential when creating a unique song. Once you have your program installed go ahead and
tour the program and get familiar with it.
Components
of a Song
1. Music
2. Vocals
3. Lyrics
4. Hook
5. Passion
Music
I
noticed most people will listen to a song if it has great music behind it, even
if the vocals suck and the lyrics are iffy at best. Why, you may ask? Music
sets the ambiance of a song. I am guilty of falling in love with the music in
songs and not really the song itself. Sometimes the vocals aren't the best or
the lyrics don’t make any sense, but the music grabs me. So make sure you take
your time with your music, remember music doesn't have to be accompanied by
vocals.
Vocals
If
you want to sing along with your music, take the time to warm up your voice and
record and record again. Sometimes the first recording will be the best one and
other times the last one will be the best.
Lyrics
Use
the music to guide you on your lyrics. This is a method I use. Rarely, do my
lyrics come before my music but for others this may be different. Music evokes
images and thoughts when you listen to it. If you’re using midi to link your
instrument to your computer, your lyrics might come in the midst of you
playing. Make sure you write what comes to you and then re-read and edit until
the flow is right.
Hook
Having
a good hook, which is the part of the song that usually gets stuck in our
heads, is optimum. The hook can be the same as your chorus or can be the
transitional part that comes just before your chorus. Either one of these will
work fine in your song.
Passion
Without
passion, a song cannot take on dimension. It will be as flat as paper,
uninteresting and unappealing. No one wants to listen to music that lacks
passion. This is especially vital when it comes to vocals. You have to believe
in what you’re singing to your audience. If you say your heart is broke, I want
to feel that brokenness when I listen to you sing. Notice I said feel and not
hear. No one wants to hear your voice breaking up and you sobbing in the midst
of the song, that’s not professional. Now if your listener breaks out in tears
because of your sad song, then you've done your job correctly.
