Kool-Aid Candy
Enjoy the
explosive flavor of Kool-Aid Candy!
This recipe
is a play off of a “Poor Man’s Candy,” except this recipe takes the simple
caramel candy to another level. Last night, I realized I had a taste for
something different, something sweet. I had Kool-Aid in the cabinet for my
Kool-Aid cake recipe and decided to use some of it for some candy too. The best
part of making the candy was eating it. This sweet, delicious, hard candy is guaranteed
to hit the spot.
Before you
start making your candy, be sure to prepare your pan. You will need a sheet pan
lined with parchment paper, greased with oil or shortening. Once your pan is
prepared set it aside.
Ingredients:
1 C water
¼ C Corn
syrup
½ C Water
1 Packet of
Kool-Aid
Food
Coloring
Using a
heavy bottom pot, combine your sugar, corn syrup, and water into the pot. Bring
liquid to 295 degrees Fahrenheit otherwise known as the hard crack stage on
your candy thermometer. If you don’t have a candy thermometer that’s fine too,
you can check the readiness of your candy by dropping some of the liquid into
water, if it turns hard and solid, it is ready.
Once you
reach the hard crack stage take it off the heat and add your desired Kool-Aid.
In this recipe, I used blue-raspberry flavored Kool-Aid. For an intense color
add food coloring. Be sure to pour your candy quickly onto prepared pan, if you
wait too long it will become too thick to work with. If you want you can use high-heat candy molds to get cool shapes. So go on and try it out. It’s cheap,
easy and yummy!
